This is part four of the Security Legislation Directorate (SLD) file (file number 2/4/2/121) on the United Democratic Front (UDF) in terms of internal security: control of organisations. This file was opened on 15 May 1985 and closed on 30 May 1986 and contains among others correspondence of the South African Police and the Directorate of Security Legislation on the subject of a State Security Council decision regarding the United Democratic Front (UDF) and other organisations and the consideration for the appointment of an advice committee; application to hold open-air meeting by the UDF in terms of the Internal Security Act 74/1982; Report of a meeting between a UDF delegation and the Advance Party of the Eminent Persons Group (EPG); UDF pamphlet 'Free Mandela - leader of the people'; Government Gazette Vol. 247 No. 10070; articles 'Relations with the commercial media', SABC commentary 'Optrede teen politieke aktivisme', and 'Legislation and civil liberties in South Africa' by A.S. Matthews; One Million Signature Campaign, and newspaper clippings. The documents date between 1985 and 1986. All the documents are photocopies. These copies were released by the National Archives in respect of PAIA request number 2011-0127-NAR. |
