This poster is an offset litho in black and yellow, produced by the Hunger Strikers Committee in 1989. This poster demande the lifting of the State of Emergency and the release of all detainees following a widespread hunger strike. The text reads: "FREE ALL DETAINEES: LIFT THE STATE OF EMERGENCY". This poster was digitised by Colourline in 2008. Reproduced in "Images of Defiance: South African Resistance posters in the 1980s" on page 151 (number 276) of the 1991 SAHA / Ravan Press edition and the 2004 SAHA / STE Publishers edition. It has also been included in the SAHA online exhibition - 'Between Life and Death: Stories from John Vorster Square', 2012. |
