Description: This code of condict was drawn up by the Anti-Privatisation Forum (APF) in 2007. Even though the APF drew up its first draft Constitution in 2004 (subsequently finalised and formally adopted in 2007), one of the missing elements was a ‘Code of Conduct’ for its own members/activists. Being a largely open membership movement without strict membership ‘rules’ (even though the APF did have an extensive set of policies covering various areas of organisational life), the APF soon found itself confronting a range of difficult challenges associated with the personal and political conduct of a growing number of organisational affiliates, political groupings and individual activist members. More specifically, as a result of a series of personal, political and organisational-financial conflicts and tensions within the APF, a majority within the APF felt that the organisation required a formal ‘Code of Conduct’ in order to guide, regulate and provide for disciplinary action against transgressors. This was eventually adopted by the APF Annual General Meeting in 2007. Although this ‘Code’ was employed in numerous disciplinary cases including in the extremely difficult and very public expulsion of several APF activists in 2009 over rape charges, the APF always struggled with upholding and enforcing all of its contents.
